Welcome to the website of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the State University of New York College at Oneonta. The department is the first professionally accredited department on our campus, with our program having the recognition of the American Chemical Society Committee on Professional Training. Our department offers three distinct degree programs; Chemistry, Chemistry-Biochemistry Track and Adolescence Education-Chemistry. The Chemistry B.S. degree offers the option of certification to the American Chemical Society and includes coursework in the five primary disciplines in chemistry (inorganic, organic, analytical, physical and biochemistry). The Chemistry-Biochemistry track B.S. degree is the ONLY degree track on campus where the courses required for admission to most U.S. medical schools are contained within the degree. Those wishing to pursue medical school acceptance can thus major in this area and not have to take any courses outside their major! The third major degree available is in Adolescence Education-Chemistry. This degree track is coordinated in close cooperation with the Secondary Education department at Oneonta and leads to NYS certification for teaching high school chemistry.
