Faculty Fellowship Program 2007-2008

"To improve student learning through the use of technology"

Up to $30,000 is planned for allocation contingent on funding. Faculty members who receive awards will be designated as TLTC Teaching Fellows for the academic year of their award. Individual fellowships can vary from $500 to $25,000, depending on the nature of the proposed initiative. The program is administered by the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center at SUNY Oneonta.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Any tenured, tenure-track or adjunct faculty member at SUNY College at Oneonta may apply for a fellowship. Faculty may submit proposals as individuals or may join with others to submit a proposal as a faculty team. To increase faculty involvement, preference may be given to fi rst time Fellowship applicants.

The Purpose of the Program

The purpose of these fellowships is to allow faculty the time and resources to use technology to improve their students’ learning. Any idea toward this purpose will be considered. Examples include, but are not limited to:

• New course development
• Honors course development
• New approaches to teaching existing courses or parts of courses
• Release time to develop new skills or learn about new software or technologies
• Summer stipends to work on the integration of technology into your teaching
• Travel to training or conferences directly related to using technology in teaching and learning
• Hardware/software not available through the Faculty Computer Purchase Program or regular departmental/divisional procedures that is essential to the success of your proposed project. Purchases of hardware and/or software is allowed under this program only under compelling circumstances. In addition, particular care should be taken when justifying the purchase of hardware and/or software to show that it will be usedin DIRECT support of instruction. Examples include purchasing Flash or Director to develop animations,
  or purchasing a JAVA development kit to build applets.
• Applications that use wireless technology to improve instruction
  
  

Expectations for Recipients

A final report will be expected by September 30, 2008, to the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center. In addition, TLTC Fellows may be asked to present an informational session and/or poster about their project at a College function in the semester following their award.

How Will Proposals Be Reviewed?

• All proposals will be reviewed and ranked by a sub committee of the Educational Technology Committee, which will make recommendations to the Provost. The final selection of Faculty Fellows will be announced
by February 16, 2008 . Questions may be directed to Jim Greenberg in the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center (x2701).
• Proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria, which are not listed in any order of importance:

• Significance for improving the undergraduate or graduate instructional programs at SUNY Oneonta.
• Enhancement of student learning outcomes and the student learning experience through improvement of pedagogy and instructional delivery using technology;
• Clarity of purpose and effective design of the project;
• Clearly articulated assessment plan;
• Originality and innovation of the project.
• Clarity, appropriateness, and relevance of the proposed budget;
• Sustainability of the project (future direction);
• Capability of the proposer, indication of departmental/college support, and adequacy of resources for carrying out the proposed project.
  

Note: Fellowship may not be used to create or upgrade departmental office
equipment, departmental labs or technology in enhanced classrooms.
