Science Saturdays- October 17, 2009
National Chemistry Week- October 18-24, 2009

• Back by Popular Demand- Science Saturdays!
  The Science Discovery Center is happy to announce the return of Science Saturdays, a series of "hands-on" workshops for children aged 5-13 led by SUNY- Oneonta faculty and students. At our next workshop, on October 17, 2009, we will explore DNA Testing , led by Biology Professor Fred Zalatan. The hour-long workshops will be held at the Oneonta Science Discovery Center on the Campus of SUNY College at Oneonta (see "Visitors" tab for directions). There will be three sessions; the first two are offered for children ages 5-10, the third session is for youth aged 10-13. Center admission and  workshops are free of charge. In addition, the Oneonta World of Learning (OWL) will provide age-appropriate activities for younger children each week.

Times: Session 1 (ages 5-10), 10:00am; Session 2 (ages 5-10), 11:30am; Session 3 (ages 10-13) 1:00pm.

Get ready for National Chemistry Week!

The American Chemical Society (ACS) has designated the week of October 18-24, 2009 as National Chemistry Week (NCW). This year’s theme is “Chemistry—It’s Elemental!” in honor of the 140 th anniversary of the Periodic Table of the Elements. As part of our National Chemistry Week (NCW) celebration, the Science Discovery Center of Oneonta is sponsoring a poster contest- complete with prizes- for students in grades 4, 5, and 6.
