Fast Facts about the Science and Technology Programs
The Fund for Science and Technology will provide resources to further enhance academic quality and scholarships in biology; chemistry and biochemistry; earth science; physics and astronomy; and mathematics, computer science, and statistics. The Fund will support new technology and instructional methods to train future scientists, technology specialists and science educators, and to enhance the general-education science curriculum for all of Oneonta’s students.
- Currently, the College has 1,170 students majoring in science
and technology programs, representing 20.9% of its undergraduate
population
- Oneonta offers over 200 science and technology courses supported by more than 65 faculty
and staff members
- Classes will resume in fall 2008 in the newly renovated Science Building I. The $15 million renovation includes updates to teaching and research spaces, expanded laboratory spaces and remodeled greenhouses, among its many upgrades
- Science Building I will contain a state of the art digital projection planetarium—one of only three of its kind on college campuses in the U.S.
- Oneonta provides access to over 700 PC and Macintosh
computers available in teaching labs, general purpose labs,
specialized labs, and departmental facilities, including a computer
lab open 24 hours per day in each residence hall
- The new Technology Center in Milne Library
houses 100 computers, the Information Technology Help Desk, the
Teaching, Learning and Technology Center (TLTC), and several rooms
for students to prepare and rehearse multimedia presentations
