Barton R. Ingersoll has 32 years of working experience in the student development division areas. Before his time at Oneonta, he was the Deputy Chief for University Police at Cornell University, for 20 years. He was appointed as the University Police Chief at the College at Oneonta 12 years ago and has been appointed to an additional position of Associate Vice President for Student Development. Dr. Ingersoll completed his doctorate in Educational Administration and Policy Studies in Higher Education from SUNY Albany. He holds an M.S.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from SUNY Albany, an M.S. in General Education from Elmira College, and a B.A. in Psychology from Ithaca College.
The areas reporting to him includes; Athletics, Intramurals, Recreation, University Police, and Traffic and Parking. In addition, under his guidance the University Police had received a Federal two-year $100,000 research grant to study Sexual Assault and Violence Against Women and a $50,000 Law Enforcement Grant to purchase training aids. The Otsego County Law Enforcement Academy and training center is now located in the University Police Department at the College at Oneonta under the direct supervision of Chief Ingersoll.
