Counseling Center Services

There is no charge for our service and the Counseling Center is conveniently located on campus, in the Counseling, Health and Wellness Center. The Counseling Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. until 4:30 P.M.  (During the summer the counseling center is open Monday through Friday 8A.M. to 12 noon and 1P.M. to 4P.M.)

The Counseling Center provides counseling, education and support for students of the College of Oneonta by providing the following services:

Individual Counseling
Group Counseling
Couples Counseling
Consultation
Outreach Programs

Individual Counseling
The Counseling Center provides short-term psychotherapy to students of the University. The aim of individual counseling is to assist an individual to relieve distress or to improve their ability to function socially and academically. For students with issues that require longer-term treatment, a counselor may provide an initial assessment and then refer a client to an appropriate community provider. Group Counseling
The Counseling Center offers the opportunity for group counseling for students. Group counseling provides unique learning and support services for its members. Bringing together people with similar therapeutic goals helps students connect with other students in similar situations and advance their learning about the goal. Some examples of groups that are run at the counseling center are:
Women and Anxiety - Mondays 3 - 4pm
Children of Addicted Systems - Mondays 3 -4 pm
Relationship Issues - Wednesdays from 3 - 4pm

Couples Counseling
Couples Counseling is provided to students of the College in order to assist romantic partners with relationship issues and promote healthy communication.

Consultation
Counselors are available to answer questions to general mental health questions and to provide advice or resources to students, faculty and staff who have questions about mental health issues.Sometimes you may have a question or concern and you're not sure if you need to meet with a counselor. Counselors are available to answer questions if you have concerns about yourself or someone else. For more information about Consultations,

Counselors can provide fun and interactive educational programs for classes, student groups, and residence halls. We can design programs to meet the needs and interests of your group. Some of our most popular programs include:
