When your student leaves for college, you know his or her life will change, but do you realize yours will as well? This website describes some of the changes you can expect your student to face in the next few years. We also put together some information that you may find useful as you go through this growth with your college student. In fact, on our Month by Month page, we describe what your student could be experiencing right now.
The College at Oneonta endeavors to keep parents informed about what's happening on campus. All parents of incoming freshmen and transfer students can receive a an email monthly linking them to the latest edition of the Parent Experience Newsletter.
*A parent sent a comment through the survey tool about a roommmate conflict and since it doesn't capture the email (ruling out a direct response) and because we know that if one parent asks about a roommate conflict, there are bound to be others, we have answered the question here. "My daughter is having a severe roomate problem. What should I advise my child? She met with the RA already" I spoke with Christine Edwards, Associate Director of Residence Life about this issue. She indicated that she was glad to see that the student had already approached the RA as that is one of the first steps in dealing with a roommate issue. If this approach isn't enough, the student should make an appointment with the Residence Hall Director. Residence Hall Directors have gone through extensive training on how to assist students in solving problems. The RHD will work with both students on finding a resolution to the issues.
Parents and guardians always seem to ask, "What is my role now?". Which is understandable, as you have been involved with your students for 18+/- years and you want to continue that involvement, but what is expected at college is different. ( read more)
