Pharmacy Services
The Health Center has a limited number of common prescription and non-prescription medications available to students. Most of these medications are dispensed or made available to students when they come to the Health Center with an appointment (preferable), or as a walk-in, at no additional cost. There are nominal fees for birth control pills, emergency contraceptive pills, Depo Provera injections, and albuterol metered dose inhalers.
If a student needs a prescription medication that is not available at the Health Center, a provider can write a prescription for it that can be filled at any pharmacy in New York State. The student is responsible for any charges incurred for filling a prescription.
Because the Health Center is not a licensed pharmacy, we cannot fill prescriptions written by a student's private provider or any outside agency, such as the emergency room.
If a student is on a prescription medication on a regular basis, such as medication for acne or seasonal allergies, etc, and needs a local prescription so they can refill their medication while they are at college, the student can make an appointment with a provider at the Health Center. They should bring their prescription bottle with them. A provider, at his/her discretion and based on an individual evaluation, may be able to provide a local prescription for the student.
If a student is on a control substance on a regular basis, such as Ritalin, and needs a local prescription so they can refill their medication while they are at college, the student can make an appointment with a provider at the Health Center. The provider will need documentation from the student's private provider that includes: the providers name, address and phone; the diagnosis that the medication is being provided for; the dosage; and frequency of the medication. This documentation can be sent to the Health Center by mail or FAX, or hand carried to the Health Center by the student. A provider, at his/her discretion and based on an individual evaluation, may be able to provide a local prescription for the student.
