RE:                 Avian Flu Alert

By now, you have been made aware of a potential outbreak of avian bird flu known as the H5N1 virus.  Some have predicted that there may be more than just an outbreak, but, in fact, a global or pandemic outbreak.  Should you wish to find out more, a good source is www.PandemicFlu.gov.  I urge you to become more informed.

In light of this potential threat, we have begun to take steps to organize and plan for any eventualities we can foresee at this time.  First and foremost, we will be making available information about the nature of the flu, preparations for any outbreak, and emergency plans which we will be developing in the next several weeks.  By the time the fall semester begins, we will be much more definitive about the future steps we must take as a college community.  At that time, too, we will be asking your assistance and urging you to prepare on an individual basis.
