MADELINE SILBER'S "ENTANGLEMENTS" TO OPEN AT SUNY-ONEONTA ART GALLERY

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- An exhibit entitled "Entanglements" featuring recent paintings by Oneonta artist Madeline Silber will open in the New Gallery in the Fine Arts Building of the SUNY College at Oneonta on February 4 and run through February 29. An artist's reception will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 7. Admission to the gallery and the reception is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.

In her paintings, Madeline Silber says that she is "wrestling with the predicament of trying to attain some sort of equilibrium within the precariousness of our contemporary relationships." A color brochure with an essay by Thomas Piché, Jr., will accompany her show at SUNY-Oneonta.

Madeline Silber has exhibited her paintings both nationally and internationally in gallery and museum shows for the past 20 years. Most recently, she had a solo exhibition of her paintings and prints at the School of Art Gallery, Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute, in Utica. Recent group shows that featured Silber's work include the Mohawk Hudson Regional Exhibition at the Albany Airport, the Roberson Regional at the Roberson Museum in Binghamton, and the Former Fellows of the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. In April, Silber's painting "Sway" will be included in the 61st Exhibition of Central New York Artists at the Munson Williams Proctor Institute.

Silber holds a bachelor's degree from Sarah Lawrence College and a master's degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has been awarded artist's residencies at Yaddo, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, and the Millay colony. She has also received three Special Opportunity Stipends from the New York Foundation for the Arts. Silber has taught art in several colleges and worked in museums and galleries.

Under the direction of Tim Sheesley, the SUNY-Oneonta art galleries are open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. when the College is in session. More information about the exhibit or the galleries is available from Sheesley at (607) 436-2445 or on the web at www.oneonta.edu/academics/art/gallery.html
