SUNY ONEONTA STAFF MEMBER TO RECEIVE CHANCELLOR'S AWARD

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Betty Winchester, Department Secretary for the Communication Arts Department of the SUNY College at Oneonta, has been named a recipient of the 2009 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Service. Ms. Winchester is the first person from SUNY Oneonta to receive the award.

Betty Winchester has worked at SUNY Oneonta since 1989 and served in many different offices. Before joining the Communication Arts Department, she worked in the SUNY Oneonta offices of Academic Advisement and Orientation, Admissions, Accounts Payable, Alumni Affairs, Continuing Education/Summer Sessions, and International Education.
Ms. Winchester was previously honored at the College with the SUNY Oneonta "Making a Difference" Employee Recognition Award for Sustained Excellence in Performance. She is well known on campus for going above and beyond the requirements of her job. She also participates actively in campus and community service.

The SUNY Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in the Classified Service are system-level awards established by SUNY to recognize superior performance and extraordinary achievement by employees in the Classified Service. To receive the award, a nominee must continuously demonstrate outstanding achievement, skill, and commitment to excellence in fulfilling the job description for his or her position and in activities beyond the scope of the job. Special consideration is given to employees who consistently provide exemplary customer service to students, staff, and other members of the campus community.

Members of the campus community can nominate Classified Service employees for the award. Nominees are reviewed by a campus selection committee before being recommended to the College President and SUNY System Administration.

Betty Winchester will receive the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Service at the College's Commencement on Saturday, May 16.
