ANTHROPOLOGIST EDGAR RIVERA COLON TO SPEAK AT SUNY ONEONTA

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Anthropologist Dr. Edgar Rivera Colon, who is serving as Faculty in Residence at the Center for Multicultural Experiences at the SUNY College at Oneonta, will offer two presentations at the College next week. Admission to both events is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.

On Tuesday, March 10, at 8 p.m. in the Center for Multicultural Experiences in Lee Hall, Dr. Colon will offer a presentation entitled "Arbert Got Too Much Kin: ‘Go To Queers', Fantasies of the Master Family, and Trying to Make a Dollar Outta 59 Cents."

On Thursday, March 12, at 8 p.m. in lecture hall #5 of the Instructional Resources Center, Dr. Colon will present "Vivienne's Victory: Work, Sister-Love, and Breaking Even in Runway Land. Using the Analytic of Sister-Love."

Dr. Colon, who served as a visiting instructor of anthropology at Rutgers University, focuses his research on sex and gender, studying the lives and communities of gay blacks and Latinos in New York City. He worked previously for the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, where he trained AIDS-prevention workers in ethnographic research. His dissertation was entitled "Getting Life in Two Worlds: Prevention and Power in the New York City House Ballroom Community."

Dr. Colon's appearance at SUNY Oneonta is made possible with support from the Center for Multicultural Experiences, Africana and Latino Studies Department, Anthropology Department, Women's and Gender Studies Department, and Office of Equity and Inclusion.
