ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Center for Social Science Research at the SUNY College at Oneonta will present a symposium on Greece featuring four faculty members and a student who toured Greece and Turkey this summer. The presentation will take place on Thursday, October 16, in Lecture Hall 1 of the Hodgdon Instructional Resources Center. Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.

The symposium will feature five speakers from SUNY Oneonta:

• Tracy H. Allen, Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Sciences, will present "Volcanoes and Fire: Influence of the Physical Environment on Greek Culture."
  
• Claire Stiglmeier, an Early Childhood/Childhood Education and Spanish major, will present "‘Lamp' in the Oven - Tourism and its Effects on Greek Culture."
  
• Kenneth Johnson, Associate Professor of Geography, will present "Economic and Political Developments in the Evolution of Modern Greece."
  
• Ho Hon Leung, Associate Professor of Sociology, will present "Colors Within: Greek Identity through Architecture."
  
• Thomas Sakoulas, Associate Professor of Art, will present "Echoes from the Past: An Artistic Interpretation of Ancient Greek Motifs."

The SUNY Oneonta Center for Social Science Research is an interdisciplinary organization dedicated to fostering active research by faculty and students in all branches of the social sciences.
