ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Allison Dilzer, a senior Dietetics major at the SUNY College at Oneonta, has been chosen as the 2007-2008 New York State Outstanding Dietetic Student by the New York State Dietetic Association. Dilzer, a resident of Saranac Lake, received the award at the association's annual meeting in Albany last week.
Allison Dilzer received the award based on her outstanding academic achievements, volunteer service, and involvement on campus and in the community.
A Dean's List student, Dilzer was recognized as one of the College's Best
and Brightest students in both Spring 2007 and Fall 2007. She is part of a
student-faculty research team that investigated exercise-induced dehydration
and presented its findings in a poster session at the annual meeting of the
Aerospace Medical Association, as well as at the College's Student Research
Day in both 2007 and 2008. She has worked as a research assistant at the
Trudeau Institute for Immunology Research and a dietetic technician at the
Adirondack Medical Center.
Allison Dilzer is highly involved in both campus and community service. She
has volunteered through Saturday's Bread, the YMCA, AmeriCorps CROP program,
Alpha Phi Omega Community Service Coed Fraternity, and Saranac Lake Kiwanis.
On campus, Dilzer is an active member of the Food & Nutrition Association through which she helped develop and prepare a nutrition education display for National Nutrition Month and served as an event coordinator for the Red Dragon Golf Tournament. She served as the College's student liaison to the American Dietetic Association and is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society.
Allison Dilzer was nominated for the state award by Dr. Mary Ann Dowdell, Director of the Undergraduate Program in Dietetics at the College. She is the fourth SUNY-Oneonta student to receive the award since 2002.
Dilzer transferred to SUNY-Oneonta in 2006 after completing an
associate's degree at North Country Community College. After graduation from
SUNY-Oneonta, she plans to continue her studies in Penn State University's
dietetic internship. She has been accepted into the program and received a
