SUNY ONEONTA TO WELCOME GUESTS TO HOMECOMING & FAMILY WEEKEND, OCTOBER 23-25

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Hundreds of alumni, parents, family members, and friends will visit the SUNY College at Oneonta for Homecoming & Family Weekend on October 23-25. The weekend will include the Saturday-evening Homecoming & Family Weekend Show featuring comedian Kristen Schaal at 8 p.m. in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House.

Other events include the annual craft fair, the eleventh annual induction into the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame, the second annual induction into the Music Department Hall of Fame, the re-dedication of Tobey Hall, athletic competitions, and a range of entertainment options. Admission to many of the events is complimentary, and community members are invited to participate.

On Saturday, October 24, at 10 a.m. in the Alumni Field House, six individuals and one team of distinction will be inducted into the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame. The inductees are

Mike Baran of the Class of 1972, baseball player; Vince Foti, Sr. ’57, honorary inductee; Don Garber ’79 honorary inductee; Werner Kluefer ’71, soccer; Hurley "Mac" McLean, coach; Allison Weller ’00, softball; and the 1949-50 men’s basketball team.

The popular Homecoming & Family Weekend Craft Fair will feature a wide variety of crafts in the ballroom of the Hunt College Union from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The College Camp will host a Native American festival from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., the College will re-dedicate Tobey Hall, a campus residence hall that re-opened this semester following extensive renovations.

New events at Homecoming & Family Weekend 2009 will include the First Annual Inter-Greek Council Fun Run/Walk, the Alumni Athlete Reception, a networking event with alumni of the Educational Opportunity Program entitled "Survival Rules for the Real World," a Family Wii Bowling Tournament, a pep rally, a Young Alumni Reception, and the Educational Opportunity Program Network Meeting and Card Tournament.

The women’s soccer team will highlight the athletic competitions of the weekend, taking on SUNY Cortland at 4 p.m. on Friday and SUNY Oswego at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
