FACULTY MEMBERS PUBLISH BOOK ON GLOBALIZATION

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Four faculty members at the SUNY College at Oneonta are the editors of a new book entitled Imagining Globalization: Language, Identity, and Boundaries, which will be released in November by Palgrave Macmillan.

The four colleagues who edited the book are Drs. Ho Hon Leung, Associate Professor of Sociology; Matthew Hendley, Associate Professor of History; Robert Compton, Associate Professor of Political Science; and Brian D. Haley, Associate Professor and Chair of Anthropology. Each of them also contributed an article to the collection, as did several other SUNY Oneonta faculty members.

Imagining Globalization provides a multifaceted discussion of globalization that integrates cultural, economic, and political perspectives. The cases in the collection encompass the historical eras of colonization, Cold War, and post-Cold War. The book’s multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches allow the exploration of identity, boundaries, language use, and other issues in the context of specific temporal and spatial contexts.

The chapters in the book--"Language," "Identities," and "Boundaries"--were derived from three conferences organized by the Center for Social Science Research at SUNY Oneonta. Dr. Leung serves as Chair of the Steering Committee of the Center for Social Science Research.

Other SUNY Oneonta faculty members who contributed to the book are Joseph F. Chiang of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, Shiao-Yun Chiang of Communication Arts, Thomas Horvath of Biology and Environmental Sciences, Orlando Legname of Music, Hanfu Mi of Elementary Education and Reading, Maria Cristina Montoya of Foreign Languages and Literatures, and Thomas Sakoulas of Art, who also designed the book’s cover.

More information about the book is available from Dr. Leung at (607) 436-2239 or on the publisher’s web site at www.palgrave-usa.com/catalog/product.aspx?isbn=0230609635
