INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN GUEST ARTISTS TO PERFORM WITH SUNY ONEONTA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Chamber Orchestra of the SUNY College at Oneonta will perform Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola with internationally known guest artists Roberto Diaz and Elissa Koljonen on Sunday, July 19, at 3 p.m. in the Hunt Union Ballroom. Admission to the concert is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.

Violist Roberto Diaz is President of the Curtis Institute of Music and has been a member of the Curtis viola faculty since 2000. The recipient of many awards, including prizes at the Naumburg and Munich international viola competitions, he served as principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1996 to 2006. Mr. Diaz collaborates with the world's most important conductors and composers, reaching wide audiences with his solo and chamber music performances and inspiring new talent through his many teaching and master class appointments. His orchestral engagements have included the Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony, Boston Pops, Nashville Symphony, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Saarbrücken Radio Orchestra, Russian State Symphony, Orquesta Simón Bolivar, and the Orquesta Nacional de España. His scheduled appearances include the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, and a North American tour with Les Violons du Roy. The violas on which Mr. Diaz performs include a 1739 Camilli and a 1595 Amati formerly owned by William Primrose.

Violinist Elissa Koljonen has performed with major orchestras of the world, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Pops, Minnesota Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, and the symphonies of Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Oregon, Dallas, Helsinki, and Seoul. She has performed recitals in London, Amsterdam, Salzburg, Seoul, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Koljonen appears regularly at festivals throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. She garnered critical acclaim for her debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and her appearances with the London Mozart Players and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo in a special concert celebrating the 700th anniversary of the Grimaldi Dynasty.

Diaz and Koljonen are in Oneonta for the New York Summer Music Festival, which SUNY Oneonta is hosting for the fourth time this summer. The festival attracts talented young musicians from around the world to study with top music faculty and performers.
