ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Jerome Rose, one of the world's most respected and renowned classical pianists, professors of piano, organizers of music festivals, and recording artists, will perform in the Hunt College Union Ballroom at the SUNY College at Oneonta at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 7. Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.
Jerome Rose will present a virtuoso performance of Beethoven's "Sonata in A Major, Opus 101," Schumann's "Carnaval, Opus 9," and Beethoven's "Sonata in C minor, Opus 111." Rose, who performed at SUNY-Oneonta in 2000 and 2007, has been heard in major concert halls across five continents.
A gold medalist in the prestigious international Busoni piano
competition, Jerome Rose began his international performing career in his
early twenties. He has appeared with a range of international orchestras,
including the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, and Vienna
Symphony. He has been a soloist with such major American orchestras as the
Chicago Symphony and San Francisco Symphony.
A graduate of Mannes College and the Juilliard School of Music and a former Fulbright Scholar, Jerome Rose is on the faculty of Mannes College The New School for Music. He also served for nearly 35 years as artist-in-residence at Bowling Green State University. Rose is the founder and director of the International Keyboard Institute and Festival, which is held every summer in New York City.
Jerome Rose recently produced a critically successful first DVD, Jerome Rose Plays Chopin: Live in Concert--The Ballades/Sonatas 2 & 3, for the Medici label. Next month, he will be recording the last Beethoven sonatas for DVD, and he has more DVDs in the works for this year.
Jerome Rose will be performing and teaching in Seoul and Busan, Korea, on an upcoming trip. In March, he will teach in Paris and Weimar, Germany, and present a recital in Weimar. He will serve on the jury of the Santander international piano competition in Spain in August and then teach at the Tel-Hai Piano Festival in Israel. This fall, he will return to China for a second tour and to promote his four-volume book, Becoming a Virtuoso, which has been released in Chinese translation.
Jerome Rose was presented with an honorary SUNY doctorate by the College at Oneonta in 2001. Last year, he performed at the College in the Mills Distinguished Lecture Series.
