SUNY ONEONTA COLLABORATES ON CONSTRUCTION OF VIRTUAL MEDICAL FACILITY

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY College at Oneonta has joined with SUNY Ulster to construct a virtual medical facility in Second Life, a 3-D online "world" through which educational institutions, businesses, organizations, and individuals communicate, collaborate, and share. The project is designed to offer nursing student teams at SUNY Ulster and elsewhere new opportunities to conduct live patient simulations and role-playing opportunities.

The facility will be constructed by students in the SUNY Oneonta Computer Art program under the supervision of Jim Greenberg, Director of the College's Teaching, Learning and Technology Center.

As a project director, Mr. Greenberg will work with Hope Windle, a multimedia instructional designer at SUNY Ulster.

"This is a opportunity for our students to use their 3D modeling skills in a challenging and exciting new way," said Mr. Greenberg. "We appreciate the opportunity to work with the Nursing Education faculty at SUNY Ulster."

More information on the collaborative project is available from Jim Greenberg at greenbjb@oneonta.edu or (607) 436-2701.
