ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Workers at the SUNY College at Oneonta who are renovating the Tobey Hall residence hall discovered a time capsule from 1958 when they were removing the building's cornerstone. The time capsule contained a number of items, primarily publications, that were chosen by SUNY Oneonta students and staff to represent the College in 1958.
College archivist Heather Heyduk compiled the following list of the capsule's contents:
The College's plans for the time capsule include working with current students to add new materials to it and then to put it back in Tobey Hall for future generations. That is tentatively scheduled to take place during the re-dedication of the building, which may be held in October.
Associate Vice President for Facilities Thomas Rathbone is coordinating
the process of placing the capsule. College archivist Heather Heyduk is
cataloging, preserving, and displaying the contents.
