ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Dr. Joshua Frye, Associate Professor in the Communication Arts Department of the SUNY College at Oneonta, has been named the recipient of the College's 2009 Academic Excellence Award for the Use of Instructional Technology. He will receive the award at a dessert reception in the Craven Lounge of the Morris Conference Center on Thursday, March 19, at 4 p.m. Following the reception, Dr. Frye and his students will offer a presentation about their use of technology in multimedia marketing campaigns. Admission to the event is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend.
A member of the SUNY Oneonta Communication Arts Department faculty since 2007, Joshua Frye holds a doctorate in communication from Purdue University, where he worked previously as a researcher. He holds a master's degree from Marquette University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Frye has taught at Purdue and Yale Universities, and he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras.
At SUNY Oneonta, Dr. Frye has taught a number of communications courses, including Creating Persuasive Campaigns. In that course, teams of students create persuasive campaigns for an entire semester and participate in a competition at which the audience decides which campaign is the best.
Dr. Frye also serves on the College's Sustainability Task Force and the task force's public relations subcommittee.
Now in its eighth year, the Academic Excellence Award for the Use of Instructional Technology is made possible in part by the gifts of College at Oneonta alumni to the Alumni Annual Fund. In recognition of the award, Dr. Frye will receive $1,000 from the College's Fund for Academic Excellence, and the Communication Arts Department will receive funds to purchase technology or to bring in a distinguished speaker on technology.
