ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY College at Oneonta earned the 49th
spot in the top tier among "universities master's--north" in the 2009
rankings of "America's Best
Colleges" released today by U.S. News and World Report. Last
year, the College was ranked 57th in the top tier of the U.S.
News rankings, and two years ago SUNY Oneonta was ranked 83rd.
SUNY Oneonta President Nancy Kleniewski said that the rise in the rankings
is one indication of the College's campus-wide dedication to providing an
exceptional educational experience for students.
"We're committed to doing the best for our students. I see the evidence everyday in our classrooms, on campus, and in the community. We're pleased to be recognized by US News, but our greatest satisfaction comes from the successes of our students," said President Kleniewski.
Selectivity in freshman admissions remains a large factor in the College's improvements in recent years. The College accepted 37.9% of freshman applicants for the fall 2008 semester from its pool of over 12,500 applications.
The annual U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on a set of 15 indicators of excellence. U.S. News collected data from its survey of 1,476 colleges and universities and ranked the schools in categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The category of "universities master's--north" includes all colleges located in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and the New England states that grant master's degrees.
