ONEONTA, N.Y. -- WUOW, the National Public Radio/Pacifica affiliate station at the SUNY College at Oneonta, has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission for a construction permit that will move the two-year-old station from a low-power station broadcasting at 104.7 FM to a full-power station broadcasting at 88.5 FM.
With the increase in power, WUOW will now reach more residents of Otsego County who were not previously served by public radio with music, thought-provoking public-affairs programming, local and national news, community information, and the popular "Kitchen Table Conversations with Alan Donovan."
SUNY Oneonta, operating as Oneonta Community Radio/WUOW, already employs a state-of-the-art emergency alert system, which enables authorities to broadcast emergency messages to Otsego County immediately through the use of a telephone and the proper codes. The move to a full-power public radio station is the next step in SUNY Oneonta's plan to develop a station capable of providing news and information to area communities in times of emergency.
WUOW also provides live streaming of its signal on the web at
