Hometown: Altamont, NY

ACADEMIC EXPERIENCES:
Beyond the classroom, Kaitlin has worked on research with Professor William Wilkerson for a paper for the 2009 Institute for Justice conference, helped organize the College’s first annual Political Science Conference, and tutored students in Political Science and History through the Center for Academic Development and Enrichment. A Dean’s List student, she has been inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Eta Sigma, and Pi Sigma Alpha honor societies. Kaitlin was named one of Oneonta’s “Best and Brightest” and received the Dr. Martha L. Corry Scholarship.

Why Oneonta?
I chose Oneonta because it is a small school, and I like the different opportunities it has to offer, like study abroad and internships. I also like that Oneonta offers so many clubs and activities every semester.

What is the most influential class you have taken at Oneonta so far?
My favorite class thus far was my model UN class last spring. It was a really great experience; I was able to travel to New York City to compete at the national Model UN conference against students from all over the world. I gained a lot from the class and trip.

What activities have you been involved in on and off campus?
Oneonta does a great job of giving you opportunities to get involved. I’m President of the Political Science Club and Geography Club. I’m in Model U.N. and a service fraternity. I’m also a tour guide and a student note-taker for students with disabilities. Recently, I helped plan a trip to Galveston for hurricane rebuilding. Through the Center for Social Responsibility and Community, I’ve volunteered at a blood drive and raised money for a local family through Children’s Night Out. Through Alpha Phi Omega, I’ve worked at the Saturday’s Bread soup kitchen, a bake sale for charity, a local animal shelter, and the Adopt-a-Grandparent program. When you put it all together, it’s a really good chance to grow and to develop leadership skills.

What three words summarize your experience at Oneonta?
Exciting, fun, and active.
