Raisha Pimentel

Raisha Pimentel

Graduation Year: 2010

Major: Human Biology

Hometown: Bronx, NY

CAREER GOAL:
Earning a bachelor’s degree from Oneonta and a doctorate in Physical Therapy through the College’s cooperative program with the Sage Graduate School; then focusing on a career in physical therapy with athletes and young children.

MOST INFLUENTIAL CLASS:
Raisha cites her Biology 205 class with Dr. Pietraface and her Biology 206 with Mr. Vogler (Human Anatomy and Physiology) as the most influential and the most challenging. “When I first saw the syllabus for the course, I told myself that there was no way I could possibly learn all of muscles, skeletal structures, and systems of the body.” As the course progressed, she met other students in the lab, where they studied for the lab by quizzing one another on the material and by reviewing the models. “As I reflect on the course now, I realize that I was able to learn and memorize all of the muscles, skeletal structures, and systems of the body. I would strongly recommend this course for anyone who is interested in the medical field.”

CAMPUS ACTIVITIES:
A member of Chi Alpha Epsilon, the Educational Opportunity Program’s national honor society, Raisha has been an Academic Team Member in Hulbert Hall for two years. She participates in AALANA, the Pre-Health Club, and HOLA, as well as teaching gymnastics at the Oneonta YMCA.

Why Oneonta?
I was interested in Oneonta's cooperative 4+3 physical therapy program with the Sage Graduate School. Oneonta is also only a three-hour drive from home. I made my final decision because I was impressed by the kindness and cooperation of everyone on campus. Oneonta was the only school that greeted me with enthusiastic energy and provided guidance throughout the admission process.

What has been you most memorable experience at Oneonta so far?
My most memorable experience has to be when I was inducted into EOP's honor society, Chi Alpha Epsilon. I was thrilled to be inducted, and my parents surprised me by attending the ceremony. I was so happy and grateful that I was able to share that moment with them.

What three words summarize your experience at Oneonta?
Great life experience.
