CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Brian D. Beitzel, Educational Psychology and Counseling, on being named the 2007 recipient of the American Psychological Association's Division of Educational Psychology Paul R. Pintrich Outstanding Dissertation Award. Beitzel received the award for his dissertation entitled "Designing Contrasting Video Case Activities to Facilitate Learning of Complex Subject Matter." Considered the premier dissertation award within the field of educational psychology, the Pintrich Award includes a small stipend and an invitation to present at the 2007 conference of the American Psychological Association in San Francisco. Beitzel's dissertation was selected from a wide range of projects examining basic cognitive and motivational processes. In its letter announcing the award, the selection committee noted that Beitzel's study presented "a strong contribution to both theory and practice of case-based learning when accompanied by text." Beitzel's study received the highest ratings for both theoretical and practical significance.
Congratulations to the students who were involved in making donations of over $100,000 worth of food to local non-profit organizations over the past four years, and to Jim Hamm III of Sodexho, for leading the group. The gifts supported programs at St. Mary's Church, the Community Connections Food Bank, and the Opportunities for Otsego homeless shelter. The students supported initiatives such as Sodexho's "Caring Cans" program, a part of the company's philanthropic "Stop Hunger" campaign. Students contributed canned food items to collection bins in the campus dining halls. More information about Sodexho Foundation's "Stop Hunger" campaign can be found on the web at www.helpstophunger.org.
