EQUIPMENT MOVEMENTS
Faculty and staff should be aware that the College is
required by the State Comptroller to maintain accountability for its
equipment at all times. This means that current records must be
maintained regarding the location of all equipment with an original
acquisition cost of $1,500 or greater. We continue to experience
particular difficulty with control of computers and related equipment;
this equipment is often moved between buildings and departments without
appropriate notification to the Property Management Office. This
unnecessarily complicates the annual reinventory process (for the
Departments involved and for Property Control) and jeopardizes the
otherwise positive outcome the campus would normally achieve upon audit.
When equipment movement has or will take place, please either: (1)
initiate an EQUIPMENT MOVEMENT REQUEST so that college service personnel
can carry out and document the move, or (2) notify the Property
Management office in writing at Milne Library, Room B217 (or email:
frankljl@oneonta.edu) providing the SUNY-Oneonta
decal number,
manufacturer's serial number, previous and new locations. Your
cooperation will be greatly appreciated. For further information, please
contact Janet Frankl at x3227.

THANK YOU
A great big thank you to Roger Jansma for his HUGE help in getting the
Ginko Biloba tree we planted in memory of William “Bill” Ryan on
June 2,
2006 and to Don Ackerman for all his help in creating the base for the
memorial stone that will be placed near the tree. Without your help,
this event would not have happened. THANK YOU!
From All Who Contributed To This Endeavor
FACULTY/STAFF ACTIVITIES
Thomas D. Beal, History, was selected to serve as a reader for the College Board’s Advance Placement Exams this June in AP United States History. Each year the AP Program, sponsored by the College Board, gives students the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses and examinations. Based on their exam performance, students may receive credit for college courses. Beal and over 1,000 other history professors and high school AP teachers gathered together in San Antonio, TX to read nearly 1 million essays on US history. In addition, the College Board offered those gathered in San Antonio opportunities to participate in lectures, workshops and other professional development activities, including a private tour of the Alamo and a visit to the place where Theodore Roosevelt recruited his “Rough Riders.”
Geoffrey O'Shea, Psychology, participated in the 18th Annual Convention of the Association for Psychological Science in New York City, with student Mary Cedrone, May 25 - 28, 2006. On May 27 they presented a poster of their research entitled, "Incidental serial learning by observation: The effects of chunking on awareness." The results of the research indicated that observational learning of a repeated string of digits occurs when participants are exposed to a chunked rather than a non-chunked presentation format. However, observational learning was restricted to those participants in the chunked group that developed explicit awareness of the repeated digit string. The results are important in that they extend the concept of observational learning to a task involving memory for serially ordered information.
