CONGRATULATIONS
  • Congratulations to Paul J. Adamo, Vice President for College Advancement at the SUNY College at Oneonta and Executive Director of the College at Oneonta Foundation, on attaining recertification as a Certified Fund Raising Executive from CFRE International. Paul Adamo has held CFRE certification, which must be renewed every three years, since 1986. He is one of approximately 5,200 executives who hold the certification worldwide and the only one in Otsego, Delaware, or Chenango Counties. To hold the certification, fundraising executives must agree to uphold the "Accountability Standards" and "Donor Bill of Rights" established by CFRE International. To earn initial certification, individuals must pass a demanding written exam and meet the rigorous standards set by CFRE International, which include tenure in the profession, education, demonstrated fundraising achievement, and a commitment to service to non-profit organizations. To be recertified, individuals must continue to demonstrate fundraising employment, fundraising results, and continuing education.
  • Congratulations to Patrick E. Brown of Feura Bush, NY who was appointed by Governor Eliot Spitzer to the College Council of the SUNY College at Oneonta. Brown, a founding member of the Albany law firm of Brown McMahon & Weinraub LLC, graduated from the College at Oneonta in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He replaces Maria Kelso, who served on the Council since 2006. After his graduation from the Pace University School of Law in 1983, Mr. Brown served as Law Assistant and later Chief Law Assistant to the New York State Court of Appeals in Albany. In 1987, he joined the office of Governor Mario Cuomo as Assistant Counsel to the Governor and later served as First Assistant Counsel to the Governor. Brown served as Director of the Office of Industry and Community Relations for the New York State Department of Economic Development in 1994 before joining the law firm of Plunkett & Jaffe, PC, in 1995. Each state-operated campus in the SUNY system has its own College Council. College Councils have specific statutory powers, such as naming buildings and making regulations regarding student conduct. The members of each council are appointed by the governor with the exception of the student representative, who is elected by the student body.
  • Congratulations to Senior Business Economics major Ken Stannard on his efforts to raise money for a scholarship in honor of PFC Philip Diaferio. Ken recently joined SUNY-Oneonta graduates Andy Wahila (2006) and Matt Durkin (2007) in a 2,800-mile "Run Across America" that began on February 1. The three runners will begin their four-month cross-country adventure at the Atlantic Ocean in Savannah, Georgia, and follow a southern route until they reach the Pacific Ocean in San Diego, California. They plan to run about 25 miles per day and to finish the trip on June 1. During the final two weeks of the trip, they will be joined in the run by SUNY-Oneonta graduates Dan Verdi (2004) and Rick DeCarr (2007). All of the runners are former members of the College's cross country and track teams. The runners plan to make the trip with no aid from support vehicles, and they will carry supplies in a baby jogger. They will spend most nights in a tent and stay occasionally in hotels along the route. The run will raise money for a memorial scholarship fund in honor of Wahila's cousin, PFC Philip Diaferio of Endicott, who was killed in an automobile accident in November while home on leave from his tour of duty in Iraq. All proceeds will be used towards a scholarship in Diaferio's name for a graduating senior from Union-Endicott High School. More details about the runners' plans, route, and background are available on the web at www.nationrun.com.
