REMINDER ON POSTING GRADES
Federal law (FERPA) prohibits posting grades using student names and/or identification numbers. However, it is permissible to post by code name or number (not the Oneonta I.D. number, social security number, or any part thereof) agreed to by the student and the faculty member. Wherever you post grades, please scramble the names on the roster before assigning codes so that the list does not reflect an alphabetical listing of your roster. It is also against FERPA regulations to leave students’ graded work in a general pick up area. Graded course work must be returned individually to students. Please be aware that under no circumstances may a listing of student names and ID numbers, or any part thereof, be posted for any reason. Violations of this law can result in termination of Federal funding to the college. Questions regarding the privacy of student records should be directed to Maureen P. Artale, College Registrar at x3216 or via e-mail at artalemp@oneonta.edu.

INFORMATION ON SUBMITTING PAPERS TO AN ANTI-PLAGIARISM SERVICE.
If you are using an anti-plagiarism service such as www.turnitin.com, you must remove the student’s name and assign a code name to each paper you submit. The code name must not be the student’s ID number or any part there of and should only be known to you. Using the student’s name or ID number is a violation of the students FERPA rights because you are releasing personally identifiable information without his/her written consent. If you have any questions on FERPA please contact Maureen P. Artale, College Registrar at x3216 or e-mail artalemp@oneonta.edu.

STUDENTS HANDLING EXAMS - A REMINDER

In addition, students including undergraduate teaching assistants, must not be permitted to grade, or in any manner process tests or papers. Artale, College Registrar, at x3216.

CATSKILL SYMPHONY IN ANNUAL CHORAL CONCERT - MAY 3
At 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, with the first stroke of his baton, the Catskill Symphony Musical Director Charles Schneider will unleash a full stage of musical talent and melodious sound in the Hunt College Union Ballroom. For this annual choral concert, the 70 instrumentalists of the CSO will be joined by the 60-plus singers of the College at Oneonta Concert Choir and Symphonic Choir, a number of Alumni singers, and four vocal soloists: Soprano Johana Arnold, Messo Soprano Dianna Heldman, Tenor Rand Reeves and Bass Eric Johnson. The four soloists are well known to Oneonta audiences, all having performed with the CSO in the past. Soprano Arnold is an Oneonta resident, and Messo Heldman, a native Oneontan is now a resident of New York City and a faculty member at New York University. The concert will begin with the third of Johannes Brahms’ four magnificent symphonies, this one having been written in 1883 and offered to Clara Schumann in celebration of her 64h birthday. This work is one of the more melodious of the 19th century orchestral compositions, and is always a crowd pleaser. The second work in the concert is Edward Elgar’s Spirit of England, a three-movement work written in 1917 on a text by the noted War Poet Laurence Binyon, whose words commemorate the suffering and sadness of the First World War. Soprano Johana Arnold will sing the solo role. After intermission all of the musicians will cooperate in a performance of Elgar’s Coronation Ode Opus 44, which was commissioned in 1901 for the coronation of the much beloved King Edward VII of England. This six-movement composition involves four soloists and all chorus members in a glorious series of expressive musical statements, which ends with Land of Hope and Glory, which is the best known of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance marches. It will be recognized as the melody, which has accompanied countless graduation ceremonies since its creation in 1901. This concert is presented as the annual Hans Wilk Memorial Concert. As in the past several years, any one or two adults may bring any number of children to the performance without charge. Phone x2670 for tickets or more information. Bassett Health Care generously sponsors this concert. The CSO is grateful for the support of SUNY-Oneonta. The concerts of the Catskill Symphony are made possible in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency.
