COURSE EVALUATIONS GOING ELECTRONIC
Data for the Student Perception of Instruction (SPI) course evaluation process will be collected via Angel this summer. All registered students have access to their courses via Angel regardless of whether or not a faculty member uses this resource. For this summer, students will receive periodic notices directing them to Angel to evaluate their courses. The system will be available for course evaluation for the last few days of each summer session. This is a piloting of this method for course evaluation. It addresses the need to provide an evaluative method for the growing number of on-line courses, as well as moves the process to a more efficient and cost effective approach to evaluation. Please encourage your students to participate in this process. Faculty wishing to use the traditional paper evaluation process may obtain materials from their respective department offices. Any questions should be directed to Steve Johnson (x3592; johnsosd).

STEPHEN JOSEPH EXHIBIT TO CELEBRATE ONEONTA CENTENNIAL - JULY 1 - 31
The Martin and Mullen Art Gallery will offer an exhibit entitled Portrait of a Town: Stephen Joseph Celebrates Oneonta in honor of the city's centennial. The exhibition, which will be on display July 1-31, features the unique photography of Stephen Joseph, an Oneonta native and accomplished California-based photographer. The gallery will host an artist's reception for Mr. Joseph on Wednesday, July 16, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission to the exhibit and to the reception is complimentary, and members of the community are invited to attend. The show features more than 40 large-format 360-degree digital photographs taken by Joseph over the past five years on his many trips home to Oneonta. The panoramic images highlight exteriors, interiors, and people in Oneonta, capturing a range of contemporary life through a format that offers a fresh, larger-than-life perspective. Stephen Joseph, who holds a master's of fine arts in photography and printmaking from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, works as a fine-art landscape photographer specializing in panoramic images. His first book, "Nature's Beloved Son, Rediscovering John Muir's Botanical Legacy," is scheduled for release this year. He is working on two more books, which feature images from his Centennial Collection of the Muir Woods National Monument and panoramic images of Mt. Diablo. For the past 18 years, Joseph has worked with land trusts in the Bay Area to help create open space. In 2003-04, he was the artist-in-residence for the LeConte Memorial Lodge in Yosemite Valley. The galleries are open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by appointment. More information is available from Tim Sheesley at x2445 or at www.oneonta.edu/academics/art/gallery.html

CONGRATULATIONS
- Congratulations to nine University Police Department members. On May 17, 2008 prior to the college commencement, President Alan Donovan, with Vice President Steven Perry and University Police Chief Barton Ingersoll, presented annual performance awards. This annual tradition, started by Chief Ingersoll recognizes members of the department that have performed exceptionally during the academic year. Each recipient is awarded a pin to be worn on their uniform recognizing their exceptional work. This year the awards were as follows: Meritorious Award - Captain James H. Small, Lieutenant William Baker, Sergeant Jonathan Bartlett, and Officer Michael O’Donnell; Excellence Service Award - Sergeant Shawn Callahan, Sergeant Daniel Rommer, Officer Timothy Ludden, Dispatcher Angella Lindsley, and Administrative Assistant Barbara Brent.
- Congratulations to Steven E. Garner, Health and Physical Education/Community Relations for his creative design and administration of Walk a Mile for a Smile, the 10,000 Step Challenge. Over 1,200 people took part in this physical fitness activity, which encouraged people to walk an average of 10,000 steps a day through the month of May for their health and fitness. Bassett Healthcare sponsored the event and gave away free pedometers in order to encourage people to track the number of steps they took each day. Teams composed of 5-10 people competed for prizes including a lunch at the Otesaga Hotel, boat rides on Otsego Lake, as well as donated items from several local merchants. The 10,000 Step Challenge is a part of Steve's Connecting Communities for Health and Wellness Program. If anyone is interested in learning more about the 10,000 Step Challenge, please e-mail Steve at Garnerse@Oneonta.edu.
