BOOK SIGNING - TODAY
Members of the College and Community are invited to a book signing today, Wednesday, August 6, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at 58 Elm Street, Oneonta. James P. Carse, author of The Religious Case Against Belief, (Penguin Press, 2008), will be discussing and signing copies of his book. Carse reveals the surprising truth that what is currently criticized as religion is, in fact, the territory of belief. Looking to both historical and contemporary crises, Carse distinguishes religion from belief systems and pinpoints how the closed-mindedness and hostility
of belief have corrupted religion and spawned violence the world over. James P. Carse is professor emeritus of religion at New York University, where for thirty years he directed the Religious Studies Program. His previous books include The Silence of God, Finite and Infinite Games, and Breakfast at the Victory.

AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOODMOBILE - AUGUST 29
On Friday, August 29, CSRC and American Red Cross are sponsoring a Blood Drive at the Hunt College Union Ballroom from 12 noon to 5 p.m. This is one of four blood drives CSRC will sponsor this semester. Last year, volunteers on our campus donated 315 pints of blood, helping over 915 people. Help us increase our goal by 57 pints of blood this academic year. If we reach our goal, the American Red Cross will give our campus a $350 scholarship for a lucky student! In past blood drives, we have not seen many faculty and staff as donors. CSRC invites faculty and staff members to check their schedules and plan to serve as a model for our students. Phone CSRC at x2262 to set up an appointment. Registration will also be held during lunch and dinner hours at Mills and Wilsbach Dining Halls, Tuesday & Wednesday, August 27 & 28. Walk-ins are welcome, but those with appointments will come first while walk-ins may have to wait for some time. Did you know that one-pint of blood can save three lives? Please give the gift of life and volunteer to donate!

ALUMNI FIELD HOUSE FITNESS CENTER CARD ACCESS
Beginning immediately, the Alumni Field House will be a card access only building. Card access will especially affect admittance to the fitness center when the building is open for general use by the campus community. You will no longer be able to gain access to the fitness center unless you have your ID card and it has been validated for entry into the fitness center. Your card will be used for the fitness center in the same way it is used to enter residence halls and other card access buildings on campus. In order for faculty, staff and students to use the fitness center, your ID card will have to be activated by the college after successfully completing an online orientation program for the fitness center. After successful completion of the online orientation program you will be prompted to enter your A00# to validate your ID card for access to the fitness center. The program is designed to provide instruction on the safe use of all fitness center equipment as well as identify our users. To complete the online orientation program go to the athletics department homepage ( www.oneonta.edu/academics/athletics) and click on the button that will be designated for this online program. We ask that you be patient with the fitness center staff while we move through the initial phase of implementation. Should you have any questions contact the Athletic Department at x3594 or e-mail lombarke@oneonta.edu or welshkm@oneonta.edu.
